UltraStat's ClearView

The UltraStat ClearView was a patented device for removing static electricity generated as a by product of Televisions that used CRT displays. This product is no longer available. If you still have one hold onto it! They are rare! Steve R Cooter built the first unit on his kitchen table in 1993. He and his brother Kevin patented the unit shortly thereafter. The units were very popular in the late 90's. The technology was expanded and issued further patents both in the U.S.A and Worldwide. The ClearView was featured in Popular Science, Popular Mechanics, Playboy and many other magazines. They were a big hit on QVC and sold by Walmart, JC Penny, Sears and many other large volume retailers and computer stores including Fry's. UltraStat Inc had a professional video (taped ;). We've posted it on YouTube!

The ClearView won 5 stars at CES (Consumer Electronics Show), accolades at Cebit in Germany and were packaged in 14 languages and sold world wide. This original webpage for them was built in about 1996 on a dial up modem. The big rule for the webmaster at the time? The page had to load in under 15 seconds! Unfortunately consumers at the time just weren't believers in static control (and neither were many Companies). They found their place in a unique niche market - but never exploded like we at UltraStat had hoped at the time. They are somewhat valued in the engineering community of today as they visually show how easy it is to generate a static charge (the LCD fires at a mere 20 volts). The technology was rendered obsolete by the advent of the LCD and Plasma screen TV's. We maintain this pages as a thank you to the people that purchased them, promoted them and those that manufactured them in Colorado City, Colorado!

THE PROBLEM: When your CRT style Monitor or TV set is turned off, it produces a powerful negative electrostatic charge (-), somewhere around 30,000 Volts, pulling ambient dust from the air directly towards the glass (so now you know why your screen gets dusty). The particulate takes on this negative charge until the TV or Monitor is turned back ON. Then Look Out! The static charge turns positive (+) powering lighter weight (-) charged particulate (dust, dust mites and worse) directly towards nearby viewers.  In addition, static distorts the beam inside the Tube  that produces the picture, blurring clarity and wreaking havoc with sophisticated electronic devices including sophisticated Cochlear Implants.

HOW IT WORKS:  The ClearView, installs in about 5 minutes!  The system consist of a patented static collection unit containing a custom LCD ( liquid crystal display) and an advanced "hardened" static overload / resistive circuit. This unit can be placed on, by or even behind the TV/Monitor.  Two cables exit the back of the device.  Cable one is terminated in a ring terminal that must be attached to a reliable ground.  Simply slip the ring terminal over the third (male) prong of a three prong power cord or attach to the center screw of a electrical face plate cover. Cable Two terminates in a discreet, black conductive vinyl static pickup measuring approximately .500 x 4.00 x .062 and backed with a peel and stick adhesive.  Simply remove the liner (cover) from the adhesive and place the pickup in a discreet location on the front or side of the TV/Monitor (as close as possible to the glass).  Spray the pickup, glass and casing of the TV/Monitor with the supplied conductive solution and polish the glass with the supplied lint free towel (does not require re-application for months).
